Warren Police respond to two firearms related incidents over weekend

Posted

The Warren Police Department responded to two incidents this prior week involving firearms, which Lieutenant Christopher Perreault provided more information on Tuesday morning.

The first incident relates to an arrest seen in this week’s police logs, where a 56-year-old man was taken into custody after what the logs seemed to indicate was a tense moment with a man wielding a firearm on Metacom Avenue.

According to Lt. Perreault:

“On Sunday morning, June 23, Warren Police Department officers responded to the area of 700 Metacom Avenue for a report of a male with a firearm acting aggressively. Warren Police received calls reporting a male with a firearm in his hand, yelling and screaming outside. Upon arriving in the area, officers found that the male had returned to a nearby apartment and was extremely intoxicated. As officers attempted to contact the male inside the apartment, he began threatening to shoot the officers and displayed a handgun towards them.

After a short period of time, officers were able to deescalate the situation and convince the 56-year-old male to exit the apartment, at which time he was taken into custody.“

Perreault stated that a search of the apartment yielded a loaded .22 caliber handgun and a PepperBall® gun.

The man was later identified as Timothy Simon, age 56, who was later charged with License to Carry a Concealed Firearm, Threat to a Public Official, Carrying a Firearm while Under the Influence of Liquor, Weapons Other Than Firearms Prohibited, and Disorderly Conduct. Simon was held on $20,000.00 surety at his arraignment.

Police investigate bullet damage on Main Street
Also seen in the police logs on Page 2, an incident on Main Street brought out detectives from Warren PD to investigate what appeared to be damage to a home from a bullet.

According to Lt. Perreault:

“On June 21, 2024 at approximately 11:00 a.m., Warren Police received a call from a resident at 91 Main Street who was reporting that they believed a bullet had passed through their apartment previously, but they had just noticed that it had taken place,” he wrote. “Upon officers arriving on scene and speaking with the resident, the same resident reported hearing a loud noise days earlier but did not realize that an object had entered her apartment until she noticed a damaged window. Warren Police Detectives responded to the scene, and it was found that a projectile had entered through a window in the apartment and traveled into an adjoining apartment.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. This is an ongoing investigation.”
