Girls will compete in Tournament of Champions this weekend

Posted

The Westport United Girls’ Soccer U13 Division 1 team has won its fourth South Coast Soccer League championship, and will compete in the Tournament of Champions this weekend — its third tournament appearance in as many years.

With Saturday's 7-3 win over Sandwich in the seventh grade championship game in Fairhaven, Westport  how holds one Division 2 and three Division 1 titles.

The win is just the latest in a series of standout seasons since the same team, then competing as fifth graders, gave Westport its first state tournament appearance in 23 years three years ago. This year, the girls finished the regular season 7-1 under head coach Justin Gendreau and assistant coaches Keith Nickelson and Paul Krzyston Jr.

Westport United currently holds the following league titles:

• 2021 — Division 2 champions, fall 2021 season
• 2022 — Division 1 champions, spring 2022 season
• 2022 — Division 1 champions, fall 2022 season
• 2024 — Division 1 champions, spring 2024 season

Westport United will compete in the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions, hosted by the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, this Friday through Sunday, June 21-23.
